Why this site?
There has been a lack of consensus around the effectiveness of Pilates and this means that quality research is required to advance support for the Pilates Method in the medical community, the allied health arena and the general public.
We are seeing an ever increasing body of research into Pilates and this needs to be more visible. Many health care professionals see Pilates as the ultimate rehabilitation modality for injury, post injury and injury prevention due to its ability to facilitate strength, flexibility and coordination through mindfulness. Plus, it is enjoyable so adherence is higher. We need recognition in the medical community and we need the public to have confidence in their decision to trust Pilates as a rehabilitation tool. We also need understanding that Pilates is a system and requires thorough education and training to ensure the safe and effective delivery of the Pilates Method. |
History of this site
Enja Schenck put this site together, with published articles from 2017 to 2020. In January 2023, the site was taken over by the Pilates Alliance of Australasia (PAA) with the goal of building on the excellent foundation of Enja's work. We are in the process of adding: 1) the list of research compiled by the PAA for the Australian Federal Government's review into the effectiveness of various "natural therapies". (At this time, the government has not released their report.) 2) subsequently published research |
