I started my first certification in Pilates with Romana Kryzanowska in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 1998. It was an amazing experience, with a lot of practice and a lot of deep knowledge about the Method. In that time, Romana inspired me, with her love and power, to continue working with the Pilates Method as an instructor and as a practitioner.
My second certification program was with Power Pilates in 2006. For 10 years, I worked as a teacher trainer in the area of Classical Pilates, guided by Bob Liekens and Susan Moran. Since I did my first certification program with Romana, I heard stories about Bob and about his way to teach instructors. And I was very lucky to have him as a mentor for many years. The experience with Power Pilates helped me to grow up as Pilates instructor, but also as a person. Brought to me an international experience and lots of knew experiences and learning opportunities. I've been working with Pilates for more than 20 years. Working in different ways: as a instructor, as a teacher trainer, as a researcher. Since I started in the area, in 1998, I fell in love with the Method. I really recognize the Pilates importance for the body and mind. Being a researcher in the area, gives me the opportunity to put the theory beside the practice. This information supports me as teacher and brings quality to my work.
Nowadays, my principal goal as researcher in the area of Pilates is trying to discover the effects of the Method in dancers. Dancers feel their bodies stronger and more flexible when they do Pilates, but considering the research area, we need more publications and more scientific data to show the evidences about these effects. But I can speculate that the Method is an incredible way to work the body awareness, helping the dancer to improve their performance.
